Homer Glen's summer calendar usually runs on a clean baton pass. The village programs Heritage Park through mid-September, the food trucks pack up, and then the two farms on 151st Street take over for pumpkin season. Most years those two chapters barely touch.

Not this year. Bengtson's opens for the 2026 season on September 4, and the final Heritage Park food-truck night is scheduled for September 18. That leaves a fourteen-day window when residents can do both in the same week, which is unusual enough to plan around.

Konow's has been running Lemont Classic Car Club cruise nights on Thursdays through the season, with free admission for the cruise. The village signaled which farm it is anchoring its own calendar to when it approved a Veterans Celebration at Konow's for November 8. That is the same day Bengtson's closes. The two operators are effectively splitting the season by function: Bengtson's for the paid, all-inclusive family day, Konow's for the weekly car-culture night and the civic events.

The 25th anniversary is quieter than you might expect

Homer Glen incorporated in 2001, and the village is marking its twenty-fifth year across the 2026 calendar. When trustees asked about a formal birthday event, Events Director Dan Waddick said there is no specific event planned, but that several events through the year will celebrate and acknowledge Homer Glen's birthday.

That is worth reading twice. There is no single anniversary weekend. The recognition is distributed across events you were probably going to attend anyway. Which means if you skip the September and October slate to save your weekends, you are also skipping the anniversary programming.

Trustee Robert Schaller also raised a September 11 observance, since 2026 is the twenty-fifth anniversary of the attacks. Mayor Christina Neitzke-Troike responded, "Absolutely," when asked whether the village could hold something. As of the summer newsletter that specific event was not yet on the printed calendar, so watch the village communications in late August.

What the village is actually spending on fall

The board's approval of the fall event slate came with dollar figures, and they tell you where the village is investing residents' event budget. The Scarecrow Walk from October 1 to November 2 carries $500 in estimated expenses, Movie Under the Stars on October 2 is budgeted at $3,000, Trunk or Treat on October 24 at $1,000, and Veterans Day package delivery on November 11 at $10,000.

The Veterans Day package delivery is the largest single line item in the fall program by an order of magnitude. That is a signal about civic priorities, and it is a useful counterweight to the assumption that a village budget flows toward the events with the most photographs on Facebook. Homer for the Holidays on December 5 gets the same $10,000 line, so the two large expenditures of the fall are the veterans program and the December civic event.

3. Bring the family back to Heritage Park on Thursday September 18 for the Oktoberfest food-truck night, 5 to 8 p.m., which is the final night of the village summer series.
4. Use the following weekend to visit Garden Patch Farms for u-pick apples. Garden Patch Farms is a 30-acre u-pick farm, and in addition to more than 4,000 apple, peach, cherry and pear trees, guests will seasonally find blackberries, strawberries, raspberries, and many varieties of garden vegetables.
5. Put October 1 on the calendar for the opening of the Scarecrow Walk at Heritage Park, which then runs unattended for a month and is worth a weekday evening walk with the dog.

The point of the window is not to do more. It is that for the first time in a while you do not have to choose between the last of the village programming and the first of the farm programming. They coexist for two weeks.

A note on Heritage Park itself

The Heritage Park address is 14240 West 151st Street, which puts the village's programmed park on the same road as Bengtson's a mile and a half to the west and Konow's a mile east on Cedar. The entire fall arc happens on or off 151st Street. That is a small geographic fact with a real practical consequence: you can run most of a September and October evening's plans without leaving one road.
